Polish insider with very historical ties to CDPR and the polish game dev scene regarding the upcoming Witcher 3 expansion yesterday.

For a while now it’s been generally assumed it would be zerrekania, however they say it’s going to be a massive expansion of the Velen region.

The price tag is going to be set at 30$ which indicates this is going to be MASSIVE as blood and wine was only 20 when it launched and that is the price point Phantom Liberty came in for Cyber punk.

He also stated the content will come either in May or late fall with a shadow drop being heavily weighed with the decision being based on how CDPR believes the timing of its drop will impact their needed revenue targets that all of the execs bonuses hinge on, which btw are still like 45% short and have to be hit by the end of this year which means something massive is coming this year.

I can’t wait for this

That reminds me: did they ever unfrick the next gen patch for TW3? That thing ran like absolute shite. I was so excited for it, tried for a few minutes, then never touched it again.

You mean the one they rolled out an extremely long time ago with new camera angles more like god of war and quick sign usages with button mapping etc?

It ran flawless for me on ps5 from day one. I’m assuming you mean pc. Since to this day there’s a vibrant and massive Witcher pc community I’d have to assume any problems you had have been fixed

The one that incorporated ray tracing, etc, completely revamped combat by incorporating some popular mods, among other things.

Oh I got no idea on that one

Never been much of a modder as we talked about earlier tonight I rarely play on my pc. They rolled out console mods for Witcher 3 in fall last year though and I’ve been having a blast with them. You can do some insanely cool things modding that game

It was an official patch: LINK

Though PC got more goodies than console. With that said, it was broken as shite when it was released. Even if you ran with DX11, the performance was absolutely awful, being markedly worse than pre patch with the same settings.

Yeah that’s the one I mentioned above and thought you were speaking about. It brought new outfits for triss Ciri and yen gameplay overhauls quality of life new camera angles and a lot more.

I did a new play through immediately on ps5 and didn’t experience any issues or jank that weren’t already inherent to the game which has a lot of that stuff just already baked into it.

This is another reason I rarely play on pc. It seems to me stuff is far less optimized for it than console, I’d guess because the way larger range of possible hardware configurations

I had zero issues when I played the HD patch. I don't think I finished the game but I got pretty deep into a 100% run. And I added a pile of additional mods and it ran fine.

It’s actually brilliant if you think about it

CDPR needs a narrative bridge from 3 to 4. They have this game sitting here that’s sold nearly 40 million copies at this point which is one of the most massive install bases you could dream of. Most of them would beg you to pay 30-40 dollars for a massive expansion.

It’s a good idea

It fricks me up to some extent that the Witcher 3 is nearly 10 years old. The gaming board threads for it were legendary. Id play the shite out of any expansions.

You’re going to get your wish.

Many credible polish journalist and people with ties to CDPR have said their plans are essentially console mods 2025 which they did, Witcher 3 expansion to bridge the gap into ciri becoming a Witcher in 4 in 2026, and Witcher 4 in 2027.

Analysts have said they must release something that will sell on the level of phantom liberty this year or even better to hit their revenue targets for their bonuses and the quarterly earnings reports confirm this.

Also this has been an open secret since mid last year and CDPR rather than deny it has made glib jokes about it on twitter. It’s also not being made by them, but by fools theory the same people making Witcher 1 remake, which also tracks since that game is still in pre production and is likely 2028 at the earliest so they must be working on something

Would this be the longest gap between game and dlc release?

No idea.

A lot more studios would be wise to leverage their old games like this though imo

Borderlands 2 had a dlc right before Borderlands 3 came out, 7 years from the original game release date.

Phantom liberty was great. If it is anywhere close to that it would be huge.

My only concern is that Witcher 3 was built on the Red Engine. Fools theory is staffed by a good amount of people that worked at CDPR and on Witcher 3 so I’m sure there is some institutional knowledge of the engine there but there’s going to be a lot of people who have no experience working on what was an in house engine for them specially before they dumped it for unreal. Which imo was a mistake
