Why is the umpire standing right in front of the short stop? Shouldn't he be a few steps over to his left.....closer to being in between the pitcher and the 2nd base bag? And probably a step or 2 back too.

They may be running a reduced ump crew to save money. Thats a common position if there is no third base umpire.
