Was going to buy a 4GB Samsung T9 for work. They’re typically $400. Before Christmas they were floating below $300. Now Amazon & Best Buy had it listed for $800.

We have the rapid rise of AI footage/data to thank for this, right?

Any type of flash memory is made in the same places as DRAM.

They are really driving prices way up, AI is absolutely screwing the consumer market.

It will be a while, but curious when openAI collapses, will there be a massive oversupply? They are one of the largest buyers.

If you're buying it for work, you shouldn't be paying for it. And depending on what you do, you have to justify why a WD Black or similar spinning disk is worth (159 vs 499) the premium over solid state. MY guess is no.

If you absolutely need 4TB, just get one of these:

Newegg 4TB SSD

And one of these or similar:

Newegg SSD Enclosure

Will be faster than that BB one and half the price.

It's going to get worse before it gets better. Western Digital announced last week that their entire production capacity for this year is already sold to enterprise customers. Also that alot of capacity for the next 2-3 years has already been committed.

So glad that I built a new gaming PC a couple years ago. Just hope nothing breaks for a few years.
