SAVE America Act isn't the fix you think it is

The photo ID rules would not go into effect until 2027 which is AFTER the midterms. In fact the SAVE ACT and SAVE AMERICA ACT are both effectively worthless for influencing the 2026 midterm election.

The core requirement for proof of citizenship at registration would take effect immediately upon enactment (applying to new registration applications submitted on or after that date).

The photo ID requirement for voting is explicitly delayed to apply only to federal elections held in 2027 or later (not 2026).

The midterms are in November 2026. Primary voting is already underway in many states, and voter registration deadlines for the general election are months away but closing fast. There's zero time left for the bill to pass both chambers, get signed, allow states to implement massive changes (new verification systems, guidance from the Election Assistance Commission, etc.), and actually apply before November 2026 voting wraps up.

This entire bill whether you want to believe me or not is nothing more than theatrics. If the GOP wanted this fix they would have passed this last year but now its too late to really fix anything.

So you don’t support the act because ID requirement happens after your desired time frame?

Seems silly to me as well. Better that it happens later than not at all.

Sounds like this is posturing for when Dems take control in the mid terms. The built in excuses are mounting early this time

No I support it but it doesn't resolve the voting problems we have at the state level in many states. Unfortunately this will allow them to once again rig the voting systems so Democrats get in and kill off any changes to the system. Hope that is not the case but it looks like that is what they have set this up for

There would be less support for it if it was effective immediately.

I don't care if I die before it becomes effective. It needs to pass.
