Help me with my yard

I have a pool in my back yard that takes up a large percentage of the space. I have roughly a 5 ft patch of grass that runs along 3 sides. When we initially put the pool in, we sodded with St. Aug grass about 5 years ago and just left it alone. Well, this winter, it looks like we have no grass yet. Our front yard is St. Aug and while brown, it is thick. The back yard is nothing but dirt.
So I figured, now may be a good time to replace the grass. I'd rather not use St. Aug again and I'd really prefer something seeded if possible. Any suggestions? Low maintenance would be a plus. I'd put turf, but we have dogs.

Bermuda or zoysia.
Having a thick carpet of grass at 1 to 1.5” is sooo much better than 4” St. Augustine blades by the pool.
You got sun? I’d go Bermuda.
Less sun? Zoysia
——
Go with sod if possible.
Bermuda is seedable but you don’t want to go through that process by the pool (you’ll fight heavy weeds for at least a year).
Zoysia is very difficult to grow from seed. Don’t bother.
Kill what remains of the St Aug with glyphosate. Level, starter fert, and sod.
All that said, I’d love to know what happened to your SA.
I’m assuming your pool isn’t a shady area…

Thank you. Bermuda it is. Yes, our pool gets a lot of sun.
Agree, I'd love to know. I think it became over run with weeds and my husband did some kind of treatment in the fall which killed pretty much everything. After, there was very little St. Aug left.
Hoping to take better care of it this time around.
Is Bermuda sod readily available in the New Orleans area?

Hmm, could have used the wrong herbicide or misapplied.
For Bermuda, yes it’s available.
But I’d try Celebration Bermuda first. It’s got the best color out of dozens of popular cultivars.
This place in Covington has it if they will deliver to you: LINK
Bermuda is amazing. Responds quickly to fertilizer and iron, and hardy against most herbicides. The board loves it!
Enjoy!
ETA: If you can’t source Celebration, Tifway 419 will work!

Oh, and I must add that Bermuda does best at 1-2” and grows quickly, especially if pushed with nitrogen fertilizer.
You will need to fertilize it though, as it is very hungry.
Mow every 5 days for best results.
If you wait too long and cut too much off, it will be brown for a while.
This doesn’t hurt anything, but it’s not the most desirable look.
However, if you stay on top of the mowing then it’ll be the best grass you’ve ever seen.
If this scares you, Zoysia grows slower

Just out artificial turf and call it a day

Honestly, dogs typically run the fences and I don’t see how you will grow grass from seed with dogs around.
