I’ve seen better Quad Gods in the Quad.

I know absolutely nothing about figure skating. Took me a while to figure out the scoring system.

From my limited experience.. I think both our guy and the Japanese guy did the most difficult jumps so that raised their base scoring possibilities a decent amount above the rest of the field. They both scored almost 20 points on their difficult quad jumps. That makes it much easier to get those high scores.

But watching them both, I'll say the Japanese guy looked smoother out there. I also think the shorter skaters look smoother and better out there versus the guys with long lanky legs jumping around.

He was actually beat in the short program by the same guy at the Grand Prix (one of the competitions during the season). The Japenese skater is pretty flawless in that program/has a good balance of artistic and technical and Malinin under rotated on the jump.

That said, when they do the free skate (long program) Malinin usually rips off a ton of quads (only one in the short) that really amps up the technical score (they have technical and artistic scores).

It was for the figure skating team event. The commentators said that Malinin may not even skate the long program. My money is still on him when they get to the actual individual skating event.
