Found a 2016 F150 Platinum. V8 with the 6 tranny. 26k miles. Pulled the carfax and it’s been meticulously maintained. 4x4, decked out.

No cam phaser issues, no turbo, no 10 speed transmission.

fricking $46k.

I need an intervention.

UPDATE: already gone. One day on the market. Crazy.

What exactly do you need a truck for?

That’s high for a ten year old truck but also it’s barely been driven so I dunno

Need is relative. Want is what I’m dealing with.

ETA: I use to travel a ton for work but don’t anymore so I want a truck because when you need one you fricking need one. But it needs to be nice enough for a primary vehicle.

No issues with my 16 so far. But I also don’t put many miles on it. Right under 90k right now.

You need us to talk you off the ledge for spending $46,000 on a 10 year old truck?

Just lease a new one.

All I’ve ever done is bought used Japanese vehicles and driven the wheels off them since I traveled 2 states for work. The concept of leasing a vehicle to me sounds crazy to me as you’re just renting a car.

Explain this to me.

Long as you are honest with yourself.

So you want to pay for something that is ridiculously inflated and overpriced, on the off chance you are presented with something that absolutely requires a truck.

Because 90% of the time you'd be better served with a van or SUV.

And those rare situations that actually truly require the unique specifications of a truck?

Rent one. The small rental fee is gonna be a lot less than you'd spend on that truck note every month not to use it.

If you aren't hauling something that requires a truck...don't get one

Lower payments, modern features, no depreciation risk to you, ability to upgrade without worrying about selling, and a full warranty.

I don't haul stuff that often, but I've had a truck for almost 2 decades.

Driving on the interstate with tow mirrors has been a game changer for me. I drive my wife's luxury sedan when we go into the city together and I can't change lanes without looking back about 12 times.

In my truck I only have to look once and I can see the two lanes on both sides.

Let's say you've fallen on some hard times. Money not as good as it used to be, credit score took a hit, to the point you can't get approved at good rates.

But...you can get approved on a lease. You take the lease on the vehicle you want at the terms you like (optimally the lowest miles if you're gonna go this route) let's say 10k a year. You are after a low note.

You were able to get approved where you wouldn't otherwise, and drive your new vehicle
You pay that lease note every month, raising your credit score. At the end of the lease, your credit score has improved and given you more history.

Now, let's say you've exceeded the mileage. Sure, you can pay the overage, but some companies waive the mileage and damage fees if you buy the vehicle, which you can now finance with your improved credit score.

That, or if you are a person who trades their vehicle in for a new one every three or so years anyway, this insulates you from wild market swings and allows you to shift vehicles if your family needs change.

This is interesting to me because I’ve been focused on finding the year, make, model that had the best reliability. What you’re saying is lease a new one and exchange equity for not giving a shite if it’s a good build since it’s a lease?

The luxury sedan doesn't have blind spot indicators?

Just looked up 2026 F 150 platinum 4x4 is ~75k, so that’s probably a decent price. Still, the price of vehicles has become insane.

Yeah but the safety features added in the last 10 years...huge game changers.

It does, but the mirrors are so damn small I don't trust them.

Almost had a wreck where a car was outside the zone and I still couldn't see them at night.

I'd pay almost anything to put tow mirrors on her car, but it would look freaking ridiculous.

I appreciate the thought that went into this. Seriously. But I have enough cash on hand to buy this truck 3 times. I’m a saver which is why this whole thing is killing me.

I have my truck already if I need to pull the boat.

I'm gonna lease the hell out of fun driving vehicles over the next 30 years of my life.

Screw paying $70,000 for a car that'll be worth $50,000 a year after I buy it. Let the dealers eat that depreciation.
