Out here in CA, tamales are very different from those back home - thicker with coarser masa covering and a variety of fillings (even sweet ones). Used to get good tamales from Solly's back in Vicksburg the way I like them - thin and spicy with finely ground masa and minced beef filling.

Go to Denham and get some from Cantu's. It's worth the drive.

You mean they are actual tamales instead of this mutant form served with gravy that people enjoy in the South?
