Well, I've always liked "Sparrows" (1926) a lot. The restoration print on the blu-ray looks stellar, much better than the lousy public-domain prints that floated around for decades. Who'd expect Mary Pickford to be in such a creepy, spooky film?

Pretty solid list there. I was surprised White Christmas wasn’t in there before now.

I have not seen The Wrecking Crew or The Loving Story (I am familiar with the Supreme Court case and background), but I don't recall them being National Film Registry highly acclaimed. Inception ok but Grand Budapest Hotel was not close to Wes Anderson's best. Is that his only movie on the Registry. Are they using Rotten Tomatoes scores for this now?

The criteria is, as posted in OP, “ culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” value. Wes Anderson films likely get in on the aesthetic piece and as you mentioned The Loving Story is likely due to portraying historically relevant case. So it’s not just how much those films are liked by critics or viewers.

So how many Wes Anderson films are in? So if i make a crap documentary on MLK it should get in for being historically relevant? Virtually every documentary is historically relevant.

Considering the Library of Congress doesn’t have some quota of X films/shows then maybe if it’s considered relevant? Looking at the full list, it looks like the other Anderson film there is Rushmore but I don’t see some other notable films.

Their job is to preserve media. Why wouldn’t you want a wealth of content?
