I know it’s not an LSU song but I do feel like LSU popularized it at such a huge level beyond HBCUs. Wish our student section didn’t totally ruin it screaming vulgarities cuz man the song goes hard and people got live
But maybe STTDB was part of the reason people got so amped for the song so hahaha

When we did it 2010-2012
There was no STTDB. It was way better
100k strong with the hand up down motion was amazing
Way better than STTDB
We ruined it

It wasn’t popularized as a LSU song UNTIL STTDB. We knew it but literally no one else knew it as an LSU song. Can’t have it both ways.

Incorrect
We popularized it. And it was awesome.
STTDB came couple years later and only 70% crowd participated in it, before 100% of the stadium did it. Way better.
When played, would last 3 to 5 min couple times a game.
One of the best was at West Virginia, our LSU section took over with our STTDB version

Dude I was in college through the peak of neck pre chant and in grad school when the chant started.
It was not a nationally known song/school thing. It simply wasn't. It was a song our fans liked that we got from southern.
The national awareness is EXCLUSIVELY the chant. “Let the band play neck” is only because of the chant and really the only reason most people know the name of the song. I’ve had to tell people what the original lyrics are and they look stunned.
You can not like it but if you think people knew us for that song before outside of BR, you’re living in a bubble
