Area 6
26° calm
Mathews Lift RS

Starting it from the truck this morning because my hands aren’t leaving my pockets unless it’s to grab my bow
Going back to where I was yesterday evening, on the edge of that cypress swamp. Had a buck grunting like crazy behind me, about 30 minutes before dark. I was about to hit my grunt call, but saw a doe in front of me, heading toward where he was grunting. She got almost under me and saw me and trotted off. She couldn’t figure me out, but didn’t like it. Apparently the buck didn’t like that because he stopped grunting and never came within sight. Getting in a better tree this morning and bringing my 4th stick, so that bitch doesn’t see me today lol
Good luck to anyone going!

Figured we would be few today.

Leake County
21* no wind
.270 Winchester
Same box as yesterday evening looking down the main road

Had two hot dies yesterday, and picked up some chasing overnight. Hoping Mr. Big shows up. If not, one of the weird bucks might get culled. This weekend has been very afternoon focused, but back to BR for a business trip, so here I sit.

Good luck and be safe guys!

Me and the boy went in the backyard and shot a limit of woodies flying down the river. He got his first official solo banded bird

I put this camera up yesterday over that scrape and got this one coming through last night. I had a camera on that same scrape last season, and had a good buck on it then too. I might go set up somewhere around there this evening. The only problem with that spot is that it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, and the bucks are always there in the middle of the night. I haven’t been able to figure out where they’re coming from, or where they’re going. Given the time of night, they could be coming from miles away, and just passing through right there.

Getting ready to take 5.5 year old Sparty Jr on a squirrel “hunt” on public. Snacks snd show him a few tracks. Hopefully a special squirrel will be out and about. LOL

I’d set up 200 yards due south of that camera.

Out of curiosity, what’s your reasoning behind that?
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. There’s a thicket almost exactly 200 yards south. Like 210 or so. Which is where he was heading last night when he passed my camera. I’m gonna take your advice and do that exact thing this evening.

I know 3 people over the last 5 or 6 seasons that had a night pic of a target buck and they set up south of the camera and got him. Coincidence possibly but 3 people on different leases? Could possibly work for you too tonight? Hope you get him so I can say I know where it happened 4 times, lol.

Not a limit, but pretty good considering I forgot the snacks in the truck! LOL

Well I really hope it doesn’t work this evening. I was slipping in there real slow and quietly to keep from busting anything out of the thicket. Took the long way from the downwind side. Got about 120 yards from where I was going to set up, and noticed a guy up in a tree right where I was going. Public land is so frustrating sometimes. I’m sure he feels the same way though lol
Eased back out so I didn’t mess him up, and jumped in a spot right off the trail. We’ll see I guess. You never know where they could show up this time of year.

I'm pretty sure my kids think hunting us just another meal time at this point. Once the snacks run out, they are usually ready to go.
