Aren’t they teaching players to lead with your shoulder instead of the crown of the helmet? How are you supposed to tackle if you can’t lead with your shoulder? Use your stomach?
Don’t understand this rule. Is it because he was “getting ready” to go down?
If the offensive player is standing up(being held by another defensive player” are you supposed to be alert enough to not hit him at all?

He hit him in the head, that is why it was targeting. I don't get the confusion about this, it's not complicated. From grok:
quote:

Rule 9-1-4 (Targeting a Defenseless Player):
"No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow or shoulder."

I’ve seen thousands of tackles where they
lunge toward the running back and hit them in the head or the cunning back running towards the defensive player lunging forward. They are both lunging forward! Bottom line is the defensive player is supposed to make a split second decision if the offensive player is defenseless?

So leading with the crown of the helmet is not the only infraction. If a runner is heading toward you helmet 1st can you lunge with your shoulder instead?

Dude, you asked a question, I gave you the text of the rule, it's black and white. You can't hit an offensive player in the head.

Ok. I see the rule. Just don’t get why the offensive player can lead with his helmet into the defensive players head/helmet and it’s no problem .

Offensive guy running the ball can literally target a defensive player. Got it
