The real difference in the game was UH’s ability to control the ball.

TOP: 38:32 UH vs. 21:28 for LSU.
Connor Weigman and the Houston OL controlled the game.
With that said the 247 ranking for the Houston starting OL is 0.854. LSU’s is 0.917.
See the problem? The LSU offensive lineman are clearly under coached.

I get that but with good OL play teams overcome sloppiness. There is no room for error when you can’t control the LOS.

That was Connor Weigman and his 1 star OL.

All those penalties right before the half that allowed them to score a td instead of fg attempt didn't help either

14 point swing before halftime. Refs ended and LSU drive against Sharp properly lining up in the backfield and penalties to give Houston a TD.
LSU could have milked the clock and scored before halftime.

Houston played nearly a perfect game. Zero turnovers, only 4 penalties.
LSU played a mistake-riddled game that you would expect from a bad head coach like Frank Wilson. That's why Houston won.
Ramos missed his 2nd FG of the year from under 45 yards.
LSU facemask turned a 4th and 16 FG attempt for Houston into a 1st and Goal, and eventual TD.
Wilson himself turned a 1st and 10 from the 14 for Houston with 9 seconds left into 1st and goal from the 7. It's not unreasonable to think that unsportsmanlike conduct penalty cost LSU 4 points.
LSU was also unlucky. That unexplained ineligible receiver call turned a likely FG attempt into a punt (this call is also what allowed Houston to score a TD before halftime).
