Rock bottom Loomis vs Successful Loomis

After 20+ years I think Loomis has a consistent pattern. When the chips are down, he pulls a rabbit out of the hat. Problem is when things are going well, he seems to outsmart himself and make risky choices.
2005: Post Katrina the franchise is at its worst place.
2006: Loomis gets a great coach, QB, and makes the right choices in draft to turn around everything.
2016: Defense has been bottom of league for multiple years. Wasting Drew’s prime. Huge draft and FA busts.
2017: Best draft in NFL history. Leads to most consistent success in Saints history.
2024: Widely considered to be the worst rebuild situation in the league. Overpriced and overrated older QB that is hurt. Lots of aging veterans. Few young pieces. Best young offensive player may retire due to concussions.
2025: Miraculously finds a franchise QB in the 2nd round, has the best draft since 2017, old QB surprisingly retires and gives $$ back, and will be free and clear salary cap wise one year from now.
He is great in crisis. It’s success that he doesn’t handle well- trading picks unnecessarily, risky FA moves, etc.
I’m hoping he breaks the pattern this offseason and makes reasonable moves.

Loomis allows his coaches to truly imprint their teams. His biggest mistake was thinking Allen had grown from his failures or that he would grow into the job. So much wrong with this team was him letting Allen build the team he wanted. Allen was not equipped for it and it failed spectacularly (Carr).
He is doing the exact same thing with Moore, including being incredibly patient. Moore has proven to at least be a good program builder.

We will never know the full extent the coaches get say in selections, so it’s a useless exercise. I don’t see any reality where he was overruling Sean and trading picks willy nilly without his approval
What he can do is put good coaches in position to build their vision out. He empowered Moore to build the line and get his QB this season and it looks like a home run
Sean likely had a lot to do with the draft bust that set us back years with Davenport. Ran his mouth about Mahomes and got jumped then he jumped ship because of his failures. Not to mention failing to field a competent defense for half of Drew’s tenure
Moves off the top of my head that were questionable at the time they were made were the Galette re-signing and not re-signing Hendrickson. Hendrickson was an evaluation error by the coaches
The hate for him is way overblown and not objective
