I don't think exterior 1 is a rating. I think it is either Exposure 1 or Exterior. The x in bcx indicates it uses exterior-grade glue and has an Exposure 1 rating. It is good for temporary exposure to inclement weather. If you plan to use it outside, you will need to seal it against water (like painting the surfaces exposed to weather and making sure it is not in contact with standing water).

That's my mistake. I meant exposure 1
I'm putting ceramic tile over an old hardwood floor that is past the point of repair, and because the wife wants it.
I'm needing to put plywood down over the planks and then put the backer board over the plywood. And I need it be acceptable to receive glue
All of my local lumber yards don't even know what I'm talking about. I live way out in the sticks

Just ask for BCX; by default, it is Exposure 1. That's probably what is throwing them.

Perfect. That's what I needed to know. Thanks

Lot of things to consider before installing tile over planks.
First off - is your floor structure rated for tile ?
What is the size and span of the floor joists ?
Also, thinset under the backer board.
What is this glue ? Did you mean mortar ?

I have 2x10 joists with the max span of 12'.
I meant thin set mortar. I was mostly asleep this morning apparently
