I've seen so many movies with him, always seemed like a great guy. Not many in Hollywood have lasted this long in the spotlight.

quote:
“The funniest thing is, it’s not enough,” Van Dyke said in an interview with ABC News at his Malibu, California home. “A hundred years is not enough. You want to live more, which I plan to.”

"The Dick Van Dyke Show" was one of the best sitcoms of their day and it had such a great cast with excellent storylines. My streaming service has an entire channel devoted to that show and it's just episode after episode in a loop.
Some of my favorites are:
"Coast to Coast Bigmouth"
"Ghost of A. Chantz"
"Long Night's Journey Into Day"
"Don't Trip Over That Mountain"
"The Cat Burglar"
"My Mother Can Beat Up My Father"
"To Tell or Not To Tell"
"The Life and Loves of Joe Coogan"
DVD was great at physical comedy, MTM was an excellent dancer and a very good actress who ran with her part as Laura to perfection.
Morey Amsterdam and Rose Marie as the cowriters of "The Alan Brady Show" were spot on and Richard Deacon played the perfect foil for Amsterdam's insults and the hapless brother-in-law to Alan Brady, played by Carl Reiner.

Fun fact I didn't learn until recently: Dick Van Dyke got his on-air start in television on WDSU Channel 6 in New Orleans. Only worked there for a year or two, but had a strong impact and it led to him getting a multi-year contract with CBS who later aired the Dick Van Dyke Show. There are some clips out there of him returning in '58 for the WDSU 10 year anniversary celebration and guest hosting some segments.

I've posted this before. In 2010 my cousin got married in Hot Springs. DVD was doing some kind of charity event that same weekend. The next morning I'm at the Embassy Suites breakfast buffet and there he is standing next to me, waiting for them to put out a fresh tray of biscuits. I didn't bother him but my sister in law got a selfie with him.
