Total Chaos - A Pure Survival Horror Experience

I know there are lots of survival horror fans on here, so figured I'd make a thread. I picked up Total Chaos a few days ago and it is an intense, unrelenting experience. It started out as a Doom 2 mod and ended up getting made into a full Unity game by the developer of Turbo Overkill, one of the best shooters in the last few years.
Lots of different enemy types, well designed encounters, fun setpieces, and an astonishing amount of immersive sim elements. There is a pretty big emphasis on survival elements, which scared me at first bc I hate survival games. Here, you only have 3 meters to manage - health, bleed, and hunger. Need health and want to use a syringe? You'll get your health, but you'll inflict some bleeding as well. Want to take pills to stop the bleeding? Sounds good, it'll increase your hunger though. You're constantly finding ways to manage yourself and it really encourages experimentation. Find a gas cooker and you can cook food to increase its positive properties or mitigate/eliminate its debuffs. If you don't want to deal with hunger or bleed, you can disable them via Tourist Mode.
Weaponry is mostly melee (powerful dodge and parry that must be mastered) with some guns scattered about, the latter of which are extremely powerful and very ammo-restricted. You're constantly scrounging trying to find materials to craft new weapons. It's pretty awesome to win a big fight with your wrench at 2% durability and be super nervous that you won't find something before the next encounter, only to stumble upon the last component you need to build a sledgehammer.
Going back to the immersive sim elements, I'm constantly stumbling upon new ways to fight enemies. Example: If you dodge into an enemy, you'll push them back. See a burning barrel? Throw a bottle of vodka on an enemy, dodge into them, and they'll catch on fire. Have a rag and alcohol in your inventory? Wrap your spiked club in it and light it on fire for extra burn damage. The game doesn't tell you these things - you can just try shite and have it work. You'll also find blueprints that spells out how to make things
Game is a linear, 9-chapter experience - no open world. It's very meticulously designed and worth your time for $24.99. It's a really intense experience that has you on edge the entire time you play - both from the atmosphere and scarce resources

What platform are you playing on? Keep seeing reports that the Series X port is bit of a mess right now. One complaint said "Past a certain point there’s absolutely no healing items so your always one hit from death in a game that has hordes of enemies around every corner." Is that part of the game or that an Xbox issue? I assume its just part of the game

Great write up and screenshots.
I’m playing Donkey Bananza right now and I can’t imagine a more different gaming experience.
Is Total Chaos a horror scare type of game with popouts and such? If I can’t hear it well would that reduce the game quality? Yes im eventually going to get a headset. I’m often playing with little to no volume after kids go to bed.

So the rumor is that the publisher sent the wrong dev build to consoles for the initial release. The game was patched to the correct build this week and it fixed a lot of the performance issues and rebalanced a few things. People complained that bandages (used to stop bleed, the most common afflicition you're facing) were too rare and that you cant find enough rags to craft them. Now when you find a rag and alcohol, it gives you 2 bandages instead of one. I also believe that the game spawns in items you may be low on (except for Survivalist difficulty)
I'm on Chapter 6 out of 9 and I have 45 healing syringes (more than I'll ever use) and so many medkits that I have to drop them because they weigh too much and slow me down
Edit to add: Game just got another 1.04GB patch this morning. Wonder what that does
Edit again: Added a Performance Mode and made the bolt cutters unlimited use

It's got a few jump scares, but you're generally getting the feelings of horror/dread from the atmosphere and fear of running out of resources. There are so many enemies that they don't stay scary for long, especially when you're smacking them up close with a lead pipe lol
It is a really intense and difficult game, I'm basically stressed the entire time I play lol. To get the best ending (and platinum), you have to beat Chapter 5 while suffering from madness, a Silent Hill Otherworld-type affliction that can only be remedied by touching a save station. Given that you have to stay insane, you have to beat the entire chapter without saving. I pulled it off on my first try and that was one of the most tense 2-hr gaming sessions I've had in recent memory. Such a rush

I also am the type to save at a save point, try a new section a few times until I get a perfect no-resource/no-damage run, then continue, so I probably have more than one should reasonably have
Thats usually the way I play survival horror as well. Thanks for sharing . This game wasnt on my radar at all. Getting some old Condemned vibes from what Ive watched...which is series I've longed to see return. Was going to check out Routine but think I'll give this a shot first.

Some clips to illustrate combat and a more traditional horror sequence

Videos looks like shite because Youtube converts them from HDR to SDR. Lame. You get it though
