how often do you unscrew your spigot aerators and dump out the debris?

we've moved 3x in the last 7 years and 2 of the houses were old and one of the first things i have on my list is to take them off and dump the buildup.

i think its worse when they're older and some of the plastic or rubber has started to degrade and ends up collecting behind the aerator but sometimes debris gets pushed through the water supply through no fault of the hardware itself.

don't forget to check your showerheads especially! debris can turn your water pressure into a dribble.

I typically clean them when the flow is diminished.

I have not done this since I bought my house 20 years ago…I think I’ll do it today!

Good pointer. We had a water line cut on our street and lots of dirt got into the water line. I had to replace one and clean out others. I wonder how many people on the street didn’t let their faucets run clear. It was pretty dirty water.

when T&C in monroe flooded a decade or so back, clay backed up into the water system. i went down there and the spigots at my parents' house were barely a trickle and i took the aerator off..then the entire faucet assembly off and shined a flashlight

looked like a fat person's arteries.

i just replaced every faucet & showerhead in the house. there was no coming back from that.

the gumbo mud was hard as a rock.

Never, but the house has had RO with a softener system since it was built.

I did this today and didn’t find much sediment or debris in any of them. However, I did find some algae-like green scum in them all. I soaked them in bleach for and scrubbed them with a toothbrush and they came out clean as a whistle. No more drinking funk!
