Having followed Alexander's career at LSU closely, I can say that he was a big disappointment. I mean, he accomplished a lot, but did not meet people's expectations, particularly his senior year. The best way to describe his skills is to look at his 5-6 year career at Cin. Bengals, in which he played fullback in front of a huge TB named Johnson (?) and was a slam mouth player. Straight ahead with power. He played behind Terry Robiske for two years and was not Robiske's equal, even in spite of the fact that Terry was slightly smaller and a lot slower. Alexander's stats may merit him to be in the top 5, but not his skill level. Harvey Williams (even after his surgery), Dominick Davis, and Toefield (before his injury) were much better. Sorry, Charles the Great wasn't that great.

Then you should know that he fought severe hamstring injuries in both legs during his senior year and much of his professional career. Certainly wasn't as "Great" after his Junior year when he was virtually unstoppable unless you put 9 in the box like the Bear. Much like Harvey Williams who never fully recovered his burst after the blown knee ending his soph. year. Toefield would fall into that same category. Good after the injuries but never great again.
