LSU’s 2026 focus

Understand this is solely my opinion of how Lane will look at this year.
Priorities:
1) Current roster
2) Transfer portal
3) HS recruits
LSU has a gauntlet of a schedule next year.
Every school wants to develop young players, including LSU, but we will need several plug and play pieces if Lane wants to come out of the gates hot and rebuild the foundation for a winning LSU culture.
Because of the 2026 schedule, I think Lane will put a lot of emphasis on 1 & 2.
Current roster:
There are active players with eligibility who were poorly or under-utilized this year. The opportunity to improve draft capital is available to a lot of talent on this roster. The coaching change news is brand new, so Lane hasn’t had the opportunity until now to talk to those guys with eligibility. We may be surprised at a few names that end up staying for a 4th year. No inside info, but confident this will prove out.
Do we have a source/list of players with eligibility up on the RB yet?
Transfer portal:
The portal hasn’t heated up yet. Lane has a tremendous amount of committed capital available to make serious moves in the portal. I wouldn’t be shocked at another top 3 portal rank once this is said and done. Let the regular season / conference championships wind down and we will see some activity here soon. Ideally with a focus on defensive needs.
HS recruiting:
This is a transitional period. We’re losing and picking up some names. Not too concerned yet as I think Lane has an eye for talent and, again, a cash pile.
We do however need to lock down a quality DC quick if we lose Baker to Tulane. The last thing I want to see is another year where offense and defense can’t get unit production on the same page.
Looking forward to the recruiting highs and lows. This should be a fun year for it.

No doubt. We have a lot of talent on this roster. We just haven’t seen these guys optimized, particularly on offense.
We lose some key guys, sure. But don't need a top 5 HS class in year 1. Reload DBs and reconstruct the OL, and I think we’re dangerous.
Especially if we can keep a few of the guys with 1 year of eligibility. Aaron Anderson and Weeks can massively improve their draft stock, IMO.
The portal + NIL $ provides the rest.

I would contend that on the offensive side of the ball, I didn't see a whole lot of player development either. The only person that I think actually progressed on that side of the ball was Berry, and thst was jist natural progression from growing from high school to college.

100%.. the OL needs an overhaul. It was awful this year.
3.6ypc and 1275 total rush yards. That wasn’t a result of weak talent at RB. You fix the OL, you fix the offense.
I don’t worry about LK finding his QB.

Fix the OL, bring in a QB and a few WRs depending on what we lose there and the offense should be more than functional.
On defense, coaching notwithstanding, you have the DL and CBs in place. If you can improve there, go for it, but probably the main area of focus is S. I imagine you lose Haulcy and Cooley, they'll need to be replaced and you have to replace Perkins and Whit I'm assuming at LB.
This turnaround shouldn't be too difficult. The talent is there, the Defense was honestly amazing, it was just on the field way too much and there was overpursuit on mobile QBs which looks like it was fixed. The only other knock on defense was blown coverages, those tend to happen when you blitz alot.
On special teams, you just need to make it a priority. Kelly made ST an afterthought.

After seeing our signees, I’m confident this is how the roster will shape up.
We hauled in some serious quality, not quantity.
All hands on deck to retain current roster talent and lock in a top top 3 (likely #1) portal class.
