Any homeowners insurance guys here?

State Farm just informed me that they aren’t going to insure us after all on this house we bought 2 months ago. They said our open foundation doesn’t meet their eligibility guidelines. Has anybody run into this issue? TIA.

Did you talk to your agent?

Yes I am and shame on that agent for not knowing his underwriting guidelines.
Is the house pier and beam and open? And by open I mean not covered with lattice

What's the "open" foundation look like

Well the good news is you now won't be insured by State Farm.
Do not get homeowners with State Farm or All State. They are awful.
Call Shelter, Farm Bureau, or USAA (if eligible). They have the best coverage. National General is another small company writing pretty decent policies as well.

You’re just shitting on All State .. and recommended a company owned and very intertwined with All State.

Gotcha, yeah a lot of companies require homes is on piers under a certain height be enclosed in some form.
How high off the ground is the house? Under 3feet??

That's fair. But they write separate policies with decent coverage and more importantly don't have Allstate staff adjusters.

Well I hope you talk to your agent and not just listen to the OT.

Two feet at most

Two feet is not high at all. Weird they are canceling you for that.

Yeah, most underwriting guidelines are gonna want that closed in with at very least lattice work.
I can tell you that SageSure will allow open foundations with most of their carriers we write for.

Over the past few years since there merger they’ve gotten closer and closer standards wise. Also once we get Nat Gen Premier (fingers crossed) they’ll be one in the same… taking all the best of the companies
Nat Gen also requires the Pier an beam house to be enclosed so that’s a no go for the OP unless he’s wanting to get it enclosed

Thanks to the rest of you too. I guess we can get a straight answer from the OT once in a while. lol
