Graduate student instructor.
Thank god no one gives a shite over this sort of nitpicking garbage.

Someone does, we had a whole discussion over it earlier you must have missed it while you were at some Marxist get together.

Still likely handpicked by the professor that probably knew exactly how the assistant would treat this student for this paper. I wouldn't give the professor much of a pass.

I meant no one cares over the distinction between professor and instructor.

I wouldn’t give the professor any slack. None. That’s on him/her/it.

I had a very similar situation / experience with a professor while in college in California for a semester when I was in my 20’s, Except I received a D, instead of an F after I debated the point of my thesis with my instructor. At least I got a D I suppose.

Had the same experience with an English professor my freshman year at Mizzou.
She gave me a C- on a paper where I compared political correctness to censorship. She argued that the Left couldn’t be for censorship because they were about the free exchange of ideas.
