Still reading Albion's Seed about the colonists. The Liberty Bell was not about American independence from England. It was purchased years before by the Quakers. They were celebrating freedom from Govt. A proposal came up for a property tax. It was 1/2 of 1 percent of the value of your property. It was rejected on the principal that 'Taxes are thefts of private property.' The main writer on this issue was Wm. Penn. He wrote about how English history proves that govt always tries to grow itself and that growth diminishes personal freedom.
Subsequent American history proves he was right. The first income tax in the U.S. was passed at 2% with the promise that it would never go higher.
Of course, the Liberty Bell did become a symbol once the war with England came up.

Note that the Liberty Bell was manufactured in London.

This and allowing non-property owners to vote where we went off the rails as a nation.
Ceded ultimate control to people with no skin in the game and allowed the importation of voters at will.

I would say allowing women to vote was much worse.
