The thing people are glossing over with Lane possibly staying at OM with a massive contract extension is that it will come with a lot more pressure and expectations.

You’re no longer the feel-good story of the guy who came in and reinvented his image and won some games. Now you’re being paid to consistently make the playoffs and compete for titles — same as all the other top coaches. Except the place you’re at has never really done that.

That’s a risk just as much as leaving for a place with better resources and history.

True, but when the other options are schools where you will almost certainly be fired someday regardless of prior success, then it doesn’t feel like that big of a factor

You don't think there'd be expectations at LSU or UF? C'mon on dude - don't be obtuse!

My point is he would have massive pressure anywhere he coaches with the deals being talked about.

I don’t believe that.

It’s Ole Miss. They’re not missing what they’ve never had. If Lane keeps them in the conversation they’ll be happy for at least a while.

Yes, good point.

If he stays at ole miss he will have already ruffled enough feathers that they will turn in him the first chance they get. They think they can win a national championship (they cant) because of lane. Those expectations will only get more impatient.
Sexton will make sure to remind him of that.

I think the point he’s making is that he’ll have those expectations everywhere but less resources at Ole Miss to meet those expectations

It’s absolutely true. You think Ole Miss ponying up almost 15 mil a year wouldn’t expect him to have these kind of years consistently?

Higher expectations, yes.

Same as LSU, that's laughable.
