Since the Garden of Eden, the Arkansas jobs in football and men's basketball have always been about politics. Not just the hire, but the men who supported the hire.

The egos.

This will be no different. It won't be "a G-five guy, or a long-term assistant or 'a defensive mind' or 'an offensive mind' or a 'recruiting guru.'" Sumrall could be the outlier, but we won't be able to get him.

Any other stupid G-five hire would mean a fanbase mutiny.

Anyway, when Jeff Long replaced Frank Broyles as AD, the powers that be declared war on Jeff Long from day one because "he's not an Arkansas guy." Same thing with Hunter. Long and Hunter both pushed back on the egotistic crybabies (and I don't blame them), and the war escalated until it was over.

So it will be "an Arkansas guy at AD" to formulate the future of the football program.

Long story short, Gus Malzahn has been behind the scenes on all our searches since he left Arkansas State, and it's the same thing now. So Gus is going to offer (or has offered) that he wants the football job to "get things in order" and beyond that, he wants something like a AD In Waiting position.

So the politicos, who love Gus, will see that "We can get Gus ready to be AD while he gets things headed in the right direction in football, and he takes over the AD job in a year, or two, or three. And when he does, he brings in Lashlee for football."

I have zero proof of any of that, and yet I guarantee that's what's being discussed. Guarantee it.

And I don't give a shite anymore.

I'm not going to spend the rest of my life worrying about Razorback politics and the good ole boy club that has ruled this state for decades upon decades.

I'm going to read my Bible and love God and love my family and travel, and I'm about ready to move to one sport only - baseball. Diamondhogs and MLB. Bout to not give a rat's arse about any of it beyond that.

So if they make that deal with Gus, who I've never been a fan of, okay, I'll sit and watch it sometimes and eat popcorn and have NOTHING invested in any of it.

Gus Malzahn has been dead and buried for 10 years I thought.

And yet he made a show of showing his love for Arkansas on X recently, and in press conferences, and he signed on for two more years at SMU.

So Rhett's waiting for the right time, dictated by his overlord Jim Jones...I mean Gus Malzahn...

Anything can be bought out if Ark wants to play the money game.

Rhett was just securing his future.

The point is that he is locking in more years, not that he needs the cash.

Has Ark even offered him anything yet? If not, why wouldn’t he sign the extension?

dang bro, I just explained it

he signed the extension because his daddy Gus and the PTB's and BOT is paving the yellow brick road for both of them 2-4 years from now

Just curious as to why they wouldn’t do it now instead of waiting?

Not disagreeing with you… I just don’t follow Ark that closely.

who knows their reasoning

probably because Gus would need an orientation period as an Asst AD type roll while he's head coach to get up to speed on administrative things before he gets bumped to AD

Here are some facts:

- "Gus Gus Gus!" has still be a huge talking point with the Gus loving Arkansas sports "media" up to this past week
- he HAS been mentioned as an AD, either buy "media" or whoever, I don't remember who, but I think it was media
- he would have the money backing to have an army of athletics' dept experts on compliance, and other assistant AD types to handle finance and etc

His boring arse would only gladhand, and handle football, MBB and baseball probably, and then he's have a twitter army to act like they're him on soccer and cross country and etc
