I posted this in an anchored thread...

If you're an FBS college football coach, the yearly schedule does you no favors.

There's no way to consider other jobs if you're having a good year (playoff contention) because of the timeline of early signing day, CFP schedule, portal window, etc.

If you're an up and coming coach, or one looking to make a final big leap, you have to choose:(1) miss a big job opportunity that you've been waiting for and may never come again, or (2) make the move and set aside a great season.

This is why we'll see a coach occasionally do the unthinkable and leave before the CFP. We've already seen it.

You’re not wrong.

In Lane’s case, I think he has to really look at the whole SEC and their coaching positions.

Texas, UGA, & Bama have their coaches and that’s not changing for a while.

The other schools with real potential..(LSU, FLA, AU, Ark) are all hiring right now and won’t be back up for years.

If he doesn’t move, he is stuck at OM for years to come, and I get the feeling that the walls are closing in a bit over there with him.
