Over self-determination and what would be considered nuisance taxes today.

Great clip and reminder of what we stand for.
And to those who refuse to stand with us—who insist on painting us as a failed society; systemically racist; Nazis supportive of misogynistic tyrants—take your freeloading self out of our newly enforced borders.

Being American has to mean something. This bastardized view on two illegals sneaking here and having a kid on our soil automatically making that kid American is insane.
Imagine being a white American going to Egypt and while there you give birth, and claiming your child is Egyptian.
It’s nonsense.

Colonial American settlers rebelled against, and defeated, the most powerful nation and military on earth, because they wanted to tax our fricking TEA at 3%.
Now, we're taxed on our paycheck, taxed again when we spend what they let us actually keep of our paycheck, taxed for programs that won't exist to return our money when the time comes, taxed every year on our vehicles that we already paid massive taxes on to purchase, and taxed every year on our homes upon which we already paid exorbitant taxes to purchase. And we're watching our overtaxed working population become more and more destitute while their tax pay-in dollars are being redistributed to people who are multi-generational welfare recipients.
Tell me again that we're not finished as a nation, and haven't already fallen. It just happened in slow motion across four generations so most people didn't notice.

It was more nuanced than this. Much more about taxes being imposed on colonies when the colonies weren’t given any representation in England and when they pushed back on this the King made matters worse by taxing more out of spite
But your point still stands

Why did we ever stop wearing those cool hats?

That’s from a 1950’s Disney film. How time flies in 70 years.
