OK, I need a little clarification. I keep hearing that LSU is just trying to screw Kelly out of money. I thought LSU was trying to negotiate terms of the buyout. I thought they offered him 25 million for one lump sum payment then the offer was 30 million in two lump payments similar to like what the lottery would do. This would remove any contractual limitations on him getting another job.
Vs
The whole 53 million spread out over a much longer period of time and whoever hired him would have to pay out a large portion of the buyout.

Am I misunderstanding this or is LSU just trying to screw Kelly over the way he screwed them?

A lump sum is best for both parties, only a real retard would see that as BK being "screwed".

The amount is dependent on how worried BK is about the mitigation clause. If he isn't worried at all, I wouldn't take anything less than $32 million in one payment.

And it’s not really a long time, what 6 years remaining?

He definitely took advantage of LSU, but that shame falls on Woodward.

Kelly was offered a job and contract to leave Notre Dame at an agreed upon price.

If I was him, I’d tell LSU what bank to wire all remaining payments, no settlement.

nobody is trying to screw him over.

If he wants to keep coaching and potentially get back to ruining another program, then take the lump sum now.

Otherwise he has every right to get the full amount of the next few years.

however you wanna look at it he's still a alcoholic little bitch and I couldn't be more ecstatic to never have to root for him again.

the new school/team would not be "paying a large portion of the buyout". The new annual salary would be deducted from what is owed by LSU annually to Kelly and the difference will still be paid by LSU.

example:

$6,000,000 buyout over 6 years

Buyout = $1,000,000 a year
New Salary $250,000 a year

LSU would owe the difference or $750,000 a year for the payout term of six years, assuming there are no clauses in the new contract that increases compensation annually. If such clauses exist in the new contract, the annual amount increase would be deducted from the $750,000 due from LSU.
