Is what he is doing to be taken as some kind of noble act?

I can't decide.

No doubt he knows what Mamdani is going to do to NYC, and that it will permeate throughout the country. I just can't decide how much he is that good guy in all of this.

There are some things in life you can't apologize yourself out of.

You know I make fun of my own state (AL) for having old football players and coaches taking over politics here, but how in the hell does NYC have these morons as options? They can't provide better candidates than these asshats?

Nice to get the apology, it seems a little insincere the night before an election and 5 years too late.

You don't get to apologize for murdering thousands of people. In a just world you are lined up against a wall and shot dead for it.

He was an arrogant know it all prick that thought his logic was infallible.

He tried to hide the facts that later exposed him. NOW that he’s running for mayor he decides to apologize. Typical phony fricking POS politician.

“ What happened

During the early phase of COVID-19 (spring 2020), New York issued a March 25, 2020 directive requiring nursing homes to accept hospital patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 — and forbidding the facilities from requiring a negative test prior to admission or return.

This policy created a high-risk situation:
COVID-19 entered nursing homes and spread among extremely vulnerable residents, leading to thousands of deaths.

New York later revised the order in May 2020, after heavy criticism.

Why that decision was made

Cuomo and his administration stated the following rationale at the time:
• Fear of hospital overload
• Early projections predicted New York hospitals could be overwhelmed like Italy’s healthcare system.
• The state aimed to clear hospital beds by discharging stabilized patients.
• Following federal guidance (claimed)
• Cuomo argued New York was following early CDC and CMS recommendations about nursing home discharges.
• However, those federal guidelines also stressed infection-control capacity — which many argue was ignored.
• Belief nursing homes could isolate COVID patients
• The state assumed nursing homes had proper PPE, isolation protocols, and capacity — many did not.

What critics argue

Critics — including families, watchdog groups, and bipartisan legislators — argue:
• The order was reckless given known nursing-home vulnerability.
• New York could have used alternate facilities (e.g., the Javits Center hospital, USNS Comfort ship) instead.
• The state underreported nursing-home deaths by excluding residents who died after transfer to hospitals.
• Cuomo minimized or misrepresented data to protect his administration’s reputation.

The NY Attorney General later confirmed the state undercounted nursing-home COVID deaths by up to 50%.

What Cuomo says in defense

Cuomo has argued:
• Decisions were made based on limited early data and public health models that proved wrong.
• Other states implemented similar policies.
• Most infections were caused by staff transmission before nursing homes fully understood the virus’s spread (asymptomatic spread, airborne transmission, etc.).
• He ultimately reversed the policy, suggesting willingness to adapt.

Was this negligence or malice?

There is no evidence of malicious intent.
The consensus among investigative reports is:

A catastrophic policy error driven by panic, faulty modeling, poor assumptions, and failure to course-correct quickly enough.

Most credible analyses support incompetence, insufficient risk modeling, and poor transparency, not deliberate harm.

Your second question: “What was he thinking?”

Based on contemporaneous statements and later investigations:

Likely mindset (supported by documented statements):
• Hospitals must not collapse.
• We need to free beds immediately.
• Nursing homes can handle isolation protocols.
• Early federal guidelines say we can discharge stabilized patients.
• Long-term care spread risks are not yet fully understood (at that time).

Hindsight reality:
• Nursing homes were the worst possible place to send contagious patients.
• Alternate facilities were available but under-utilized.
• Transparency issues magnified public outrage and distrust.

Bottom line

Cuomo prioritized hospital capacity over nursing-home safety, underestimated care-home vulnerability, misunderstood viral spread dynamics, and then obscured data when the outcome was deadly.”

The Dems have really screwed the pooch in NY.

They have basically created the front runner. It’s their own mold. And his followers, now voters, were programmed by all of their bullshite.

Now they have the gall to have asked the Republican in the race to drop out so their own creation could lose to the independent in the race.

He is everything they have hammered into their base for votes. And now they are skittish to even endorse him.

Yep, I recall thinking, after the debacle in the nursing homes, this is going to come back to haunt Andrew Cuomo for a long time.

Choices have consequences. Really bad choices have catastrophic consequences. Which the voters of New York City and the NOBAMA bleeding hearts are about to find out soon enough.

President Trump is right about...........everything.

Bottom line:

Scratch that nonsense. The bottom line is that Trump sent naval vessels retrofitted as floating hospitals to his fricking doorstep and he ignored it because it was Trump that did it. Instead he ordered COVID patients be housed amongst the most vulnerable people in his state despite being so stupid a child could have told him it was a bad idea.

The bottom line is that he is a murderer.

Nope.

Bottom line he was not going to send people to the Hospital Ship Trump provided.

This would be viewed as a win for Trump.

Cuomo sent them into nursing homes knowing it would be catastrophic but that was the better alternative than the other optics.

He should be in prison.

I guess nice that the man directly responsible acknowledged that he actually killed people after so many gaslighted anyone who pointed that fact out before this. He is still a POS and he is a murderer.

The choice between him and the Jihader is similar to Edwards vs. Duke in 1991 in LA, in my opinion....only in this case, the racist is going to win.

A bit late for that. At the 11th hour before the election, he wants to apologize. You think he has some motive here?
