In-laws are being passed down a camp that will need satellite for internet. It only has satellite tv but that will be dropped soon. Area is in rural MS and all the neighbors have satellite so it sounds like that is the only option for internet. I'm told the family does have a Starlink satellite that has not been activated or installed as this was supposed to be done in the future.

This camp would be visited maybe once a month on average for family weekends/getaways, possibly twice a month. Quick research shows that Starlink is fairly reliable for $80/mo and you can pause your service for $5/mo, possibly allowing the billing cycle to pause as well. Are there cheaper options than Starlink that are worth this camp?

Starlink is your best option. If they alreay have the equipment, SL just sent out an email stating that older equipment needs to have a software update by Nov 19 or it will no longer function. You dont have to to subscribe, but at least set it up this weekend (can be temporary in the yard) and let it get the update.

The $5/mo will keep it in standby mode and allow for updates. You can just activate the regular service when you need it and pause the service when not needed. However, if it's gonna be used monthly, you'll end up having to pay the monthly regular service.

It would be just for when family gets together or someone wants a weekend out. It is being shared by 3 households and they want to be able to watch TV/use WiFi when they are there (sometimes children) but the cost was a factor in this since they will need to pay for utilities as long as they have the property, which they want for a few decades.

Starlink. I have it at my house and I keep a Starlink Mini in my RV which I turn on/off as needed from the app... no calling anyone and getting haggled.
