Big time coaches sign big time contracts

Big time coaches demand high salary and long terms with buyouts.
Should it be that way? No. But also shouldn’t build taxpayer funded stadiums for billionaires either. We also should not give millions to Buc-ee’s whims the guy trying to start a small business gets nothing.
Landry’s thinking will result in a retread hire (think Mullen or Bert) or a small school coach not ready for big time or an unproven coordinator.
Because some other school will pay these big coaches what they want.
Landry know that, which is why he’s now begging the En-See-Eh-Eh to bail him out and regulate contracts… which will just be another losing court case.

Would you have considered Brian Kelly a "big time coach"?

LSU makes coaches. We don’t need a high profile coach to win a natty (see Saban, Miles, Orgeron). Let’s reward them for their success but pay for their results.

3 years in, when the coach has won and is still on an incentive contract and has one down year and gets 50% of what he made the year before and another SEC school rolls in an poaches him because they are willing to give an unconditional contract, we'll all be pissed and have to start from scratch trying to find another unproven coach to take the job.
LSU's head coach is not the place to try and buck the system. When you are in a conference of sharks you have to be a shark.

Uhh. Yes.
At a major school with a high winning percentage?
It’s ok to say he failed at LSU but had a good run coming in.

Ok
Saban and Miles came from the bottom half of what is now the Power 4 conferences.,
No issue with this route, but asking for Kiffin etc is not this route.
