What are the criteria of a coach for winning a national championship?

I assume there are many criteria that a NEW coach needs to meet at least a majority of the following in chronological order:
1. Recruit the portal
2. Address rev share and NIL appropriately
3. Expect discipline and toughness early and cull weak-minded and weak individuals.
4. Hire correct coaching staff for your vision for all three phases of football.
5. Prepare team on day one of Spring ball.
6. Prepare team for first day of Fall.
7. Have team in mid season form for Game 1.
8. Gameplan for each opponent and make adjustments for second half.
9. Keep foot on the gas in blowouts so you can get your 3rd/4th sting meaningful snaps, and expect them to play as if game is on the line.
10. Quit allowing defense to celebrate after a first or second down stop and then just get mauled on a third down play.
-absolute must haves for poster BhamTigah
1. Young
2. Energetic
3. Hard worker
4. Proven
Theres way more. Like teaching LB/DB how to freaking tackle low.
But feel free to add to this list.

I think I get this from the Saban days. But I want to go back to number nine.
I wish there would be a SEC or out of conference game that we are blowing somebody out. I don’t care who it is.
But I want to see the new coach in the middle of the third-quarter light into the third and fourth stringers telling them that he’s watching every play they make.
To me, that’s always been a sign that I wanted to see of our coach going forward.

Hire the best coach you can. Winning a natty can't be projected. It takes too much money and too much luck, which are things the coach can't control.
We need to control what we can control in the coaching search by finding a young (under 55), energetic, proven (not necessarily at the highest level), hard working coach. Then we need to be committed enough to the program to give him the support (financial and otherwise) to succeed.
I just hope our AD or search committe focuses on finding the best coach and doesn't worry about making a big splash that appeases the fanbase.

I think we hired 4 GMs in the offseason so that the HC doesn't have to worry about #2 and can just focus on being a coach. Makes it a lot easier to hire a coordinator without recent HC experience

Can we add “not taking vacations on bye weeks” to the list?

That’s a really good point.
I suppose my question is which qualities does the current best available coach have, of these criteria and more?
The question will evolve into, what criteria is our “searcher” searchings g for?

I gave criteria. You apparently only read the first sentence of my post.

No i read it, but you gave a broad definition that a fifth grader could provide.
“Young, energetic, proven and hard working”.
That’s pretty much all you said.

I am a 4th grader, so thanks for the promotion.
What do you want me to do? Write the job description? Those are the things I want. If I were the one interviewing them, I would have several questions to determine if they fit those criteria.

You’ve said a lot. And I genuinely thank you for that!

You're welcome.
Sorry I couldn't come up with gems like:
"Prepare team on day one of Spring ball or stop guys from celebrating".
Excuse me Mr. candidate, but will you allow your players to celebrate tackles and will you start preparing the team on the first day of Spring practice or will you wait for the second?
That'll ensure we get a quality coach.

Ma'am, you started this pissing contest. I said nothing about your dumb post until you got critical.
Posted on 10/27/25 at 1:30 pm to BhamTigah
You took this,
And the overly sensitive poster is calling me ma’am?

No ma'am you started the pissing contest in your next post to me for some reason.
As for being an overly sensative poster, I've actually found your pettiness pretty amusing.

This?
This is what hurt your feelings to begin the ma’am references?
The harsh environment of tigerdroppings coachng g board may be the place for you, son.

I started the ma'am because I assumed you were a lady. Are you not? My apologies, seriously and sorry if that hurt your feelings.
The harsh environment of tigerdroppings coaching board may not be the place for you.
I don't recall saying my feelings were hurt, but my wife is very empathetic like you, so I can appreciate it. Just don't let it get you down.

Seems like
You might have had an axe to grind before the thread. But I don’t know you.
You do you, son.
Posted on 10/27/25 at 4:49 pm to dstone12
Why do those things inicate an axe to grind? Those are solid coaching traits.
Your list of things you didn'tlike about the last coach seems much more like a pre-existing axe to grind.
Anyway, I'm getting bored with you now ma'a...sorry, you implied you're not a woman. Have a good evening. Nice chatting with you.

Ah yes…..The guy that gives answers like hard working and proven now gives an intellectual tapout with a “nice chatting”.
Passive aggressive women do this; and you’re the one calling a man, Ma’am?
I saw this tapout coming from a mile away.
I have to hand it to you though. Coming up with an answer like ]proven was really walking out on a limb.
I was expecting at least one poster to disagree with y ou r dumb as hell arse and say,
“NO! We want unproven, old coaches!”
idiot.
