Hey Pol, im doing some research on this shutdown and i'm coming across conflicting information about the crux of this shenanigans. can someone smarter than me, preferably fluent in crayon, help me understand what this fights about and why the premiums are projected to increase so much, something about enhanced tax credits?

It has to do with the striped part which democrats passed during covid but they put an expiration date of Dec 31 2025 on those covid credits. Obamacare premiums have been artificially super duper low but those good times are over. Notice that the government will still be subsidizing 80% of the premiums.

the answer is people who work and otherwise contribute to society (most of us here) apparently need to pay more so the lazy and illegal class can get free shet. Healthcare being the costliest of said free shet.

Open enrollment starts in a week ish and millions of Americans (including millions of Rs in red states) are going to see massive increases in their healthcare premiums. In some cases, as high as $2k a month.
Those tax credits will expire (and keep in mind, these are not high income brackets) and there’s going to be blowback.
The question is how big of a deal will it be. My guess is folks sitting in vulnerable rural districts are really going to feel the heat and will buckle.

Running out of other people’s money to spend has consequences, commie.

ok, so credits are expiring and the slack is going to be picked up by the policy holder, but that shouldn't account for the insane projected increases right?
