That was actually the smart play on behalf of the S.C. defensive back i.e. IF he tackles the gump runner the game clock would run out on the very next play...letting him score at least gave S.C. a chance to tie it and go into overtime !

Weird to bring up Rattler in that sense when our WRs were handing the ball to the other team today. If anybody is getting looked at it's them.

that's exactly what happened there. defensive player even signaled after the play towards the clock once he scored.
