Found this on Scout:

What DB wanted was a place to get lots of practice reps, start and move on to the NFL, one and done is his goal right now... Education is not a priority...(this is the key to Miles yanking the scholly)..purely my speculation, ok..

I think once Miles got wind of that a few weeks ago, he started pushing Benton to look around.. I believe Benton preferred to play at LSU for sure.. The Randle's didn't want to be a reason that DB didn't go to LSU, so they were thinking OU.. Benton's been trying for 2 years as RR said post signing and didn't want to be the reason he didn't got to LSU (knowing his one and done plan)..

The Dad apparently was willing to help LSU coaches and Benton "coach this isn't working" and signaling, "we may go to OU if you don't let Benton go to AU" you can't sign both of us. Made it look like it was about Depth, which it was, but what Benton wanted, Start and move on , that was at AU not LSU . DB needed some last minute convincing that AU was best fit for that plan. So once Benton realized that AU was the best fit, that opened up the door for Randle to LSU, but I think at the last minute, DB was going to honor his commitment to LSU, sending Randle to OU? The Radio show interview, helped Miles figure out what was happening, so he could force DB to make the decision, which was AU, yanking his option to LSU.. Benton didn't want to tick off Miles last minute by either staying committed or loose Randle. So he left quietly, getting his out and blessing and getting his best option for his goals at Auburn .

If Benton wanted to have a real Career at LSU, then I am sure both would be at LSU.. It's pretty optimistic of DB to think he can go in one year, not having played a down in college.. and Miles must be thinking "I waited 2 years for this attitude, or kind of thinking?" Miles realized that DB never had education on his mind. No thanks good riddance..."and don't make me loose Randle with that attitude."

It's confusing as heck, all I know is, Dmitch says all parties are happy, all!

this makes perfect sense to me know.. LOL!

Bradshaw is ticked off at Benton because he realized that Benton doesn't or hasn't learned how important getting a college degree is.. The kid is still thinking about the short term, and is unrealistic too boot!

Also, I beleive the LSU coaches must have been thinking that once Benton got on campus he would realize his one and done goal was not going to happen and the could keep him and help him get a degree, but once it was apparent that DB was about to spoil it for Randle, it was time to make a hard and fast decision, which was wasn't difficult at all..

Miles quick evaluation : Randle>DB... mainly because RR is interested in an education as well as do great things on the field... 4 years is way more valuable to Miles than a one and done plan from a kid who still isn't thru the clearinghouse

I am happy - It is just sad that we are not talking about our great class...Instead we are talking about JJ and DB/RR...I am glad we have RR...As a teacher, I love this kid, he is responsible on and off the field, we need more kids like RR in this world...And yes, I am excited he is an awesome football player...Good Luck to All

The thing I can't figure about this scenario is that RR's dad could have accomplished the same goal by just getting Miles on the phone and telling him exactly this stuff. As I write this i realize he might have...but the story makes it seem differently.

Anyway there didn't need to be a bad guy. Heck Benton could have had a signing day thing and just said "Look, I love LSU but with my age and school situation my priorities are to get established at a school for a short time and then move on. Reuben and I think that with both of us at the same school this will be harder for me. Reuben loves LSU and I don't want to get in his way so I am going to go to Auburn. Thank you to Auburn for providing me this opportunity and thank you to LSU for sticking by me for two years."

Agreed, but it was a conflict for Benton

He didn't want to let Miles or Bradshaw down, he wanted to go to LSU..

LSU coaches were signalling look around a few weeks ago, but then keep recruiting him as well...they saw this coming weeks ahead... Miles wanted to get both, and close RR and Benton

Rueben dad was saying publicly, this isn't working coach.. You have to let DB go to AU

By doing this publically, it help prepare the state of Louisiana what may happen, which is RR to OU.

It was about Depth, but not for the reasons it appeared.

It's all about Benton having an opportunity to be successful and his friend not interfering with that, but also, about what Randle wanted, LSU and making LSU coaches and fans all happy

It makes perfect sense to me..

only thing that doesn't really add up is the "spoil it for Benton" part.....

if either player isn't willing to compete with each other (and feel like they're spoiling it for the other player), then there's not much love for competition shown by either one....

my preference would be for both to go to LSU, work together over the next 2 years to show the rest of the nation how strong the LSU receiving corp is, which then translates to NFL watchers following Benton and Randle's careers to top draft pick status.

Perhaps The Randle Family sees that Benton should be allow to get what he wants first, since he is 2 years ahead.

I think if Benton wasn't in the equation, perhaps RR makes this decision a while back

it sounds more like a strategic avoidance of competition that would limit Benton's PT vs. being scared to compete.

It makes more sense for Benton though. He only has 2 years to establish his NFL stock and that is really his only chance for big bucks. Let's face it, he isn't going to be a doctor or a broker. He could take that gamble at LSU where there is a stable of young talented WR all hungry for playing time. Or he could go to AU and be the instant go-to guy.

Randle on the other hand is a pretty smart guy and can make the grades if he needs to. No urgency for him to make a big splash on the field.

Me personally, I am sick of all the top recruits scared to compete for there job. If you are supposed to be the top recruit. Then act like it.
If your the best, then prove it. Top hands ain't scared. They tell you, "when the game is on the line throw it to me. If you are going to beat me out of a job, suit up and bring it." All the stuff about looking out for the other guy, him getting his chance, I'll go somewhere else so he can, is all total bullshite. If they are both that good, then why cant they both play. LSU wanted them both. Both of them knew it. They are scared! Everyody has been telling them for four years how great they are. Thats fine when your in a small pond and your a big fish. Your arse just got dumped into the ocean and your scared your not that big any more, all the fish are big. Man up, work hard and bring it to the field.

Randle knows he can beat Benton and destroy his friends plans, that are already 2 years behind schedule...

DB may get academically disqualified after the first semester

Not to many players come out after only one year in college and make an impact. Cecil the Diesel was an exception, but man what a dumb arse!!

Don't think it quite went down this way after the responses we got from Dmitch, but who knows. I think it was a case of Benton deciding that he was going to AU on his visit there. Phillip L. (auburn's tight end they signed who visited AU in the same weekend that Benton did) went on JOX, a Birmingham radio station on NSD and said that the coaches told him that Benton had committed to them on the visit- 3 weeks before NSD but they didn't want it to get out because Benton was worried that his coach (Bradshaw)and the school would not like it that he was going to go to AU and it could cause him trouble trying to get all of his paperwork sent it to become eligible. Now...speculation on my part--at some point Randle's father found out that Benton was not going to go to LSU. According to Dmitch, he went on the radio station to soften the blow for Benton by making it a depth chart issue (which it was for Benton moreso than Randle), which gave Benton an out to Auburn without the backlash. Dmitch said only one person was angry after the whole situation. In my opinion, that would be Bradshaw who felt decieved by Benton for lying to him and Miles and deciding to sign with Auburn after all the work that was done to get him eligible to go to LSU, not AU. Now as far as how much Miles knew, or when Miles knew what and why he revoked the scholarship offer....not really sure how to explain that one. But in the end everyone (Except Bama ) got what they wanted out of the deal.

The 2 things that dmitch said or implied:
1) Benton did not want and was not going to go to LSU. He had decided he was going to AU before NSD
2) His father's decision to go on the radio station was done to help Benton out, not for his son.

There....you may or may not agree but it will give you something to stew over.
