was supposed to feature the Thunderbirds. In Georgia there was an airshow scheduled to feature the Blue Angels. With the government shutdown, neither flew in their respective shows.

Know what else hasn't been seen since the shutdown ? Chem Trails. Hmmm.

Before the shutdown I saw them everyday. I live south of Houston close to the gulf. Ellington Air Base is close as well. I haven't seen 1. Not even a trace of 1.

I'm more paying attention to Houston's fleet week coming soon. The Blue Angels are always the GOAT, but my kids have always loved the Tora Tora Tora demo more; we start walking to the car mid Blue Angels/Thunderbirds demo, since they're flying over us anyway. Feel the fire on your face, baw!

On our early morning walk saw a nice long trail heading northeast heading followed by another not long after.
Guess I should have snapped a pic for you.

I would have loved to take my dad to Fleet Week. He was in the Navy in the late 50's. He was aboard the USS ESSEX CV9. Sadly I won't be able to take him because he's still in the hospital with a brain bleed. He's 87 years old now.

I can watch the Wings over Houston airshow from my backyard. No Thunderbirds. Usually we'll have an F-35 and or an F-22 and some other jets. Not this year. There was a privately owned A-4 flying.

Yep. I jsit checked and about two hours ago the Democrats voted to block reopening the government for the 11th time in a row….

quote:

The Senate on Monday voted against reopening the federal government for the 11th time, pushing the shutdown to the three-week mark with both sides at loggerheads and unable to break the impasse.

The chamber voted 50-43 on the House-passed continuing resolution to fund the government through late November. It needed 60 votes to pass.

Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Angus King (I-Maine) once again crossed party lines and sided with Republicans. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who had previously voted in favor of the measure, did not vote on Monday.

Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) was the lone Senate GOP “no” vote.

The interesting thing is that you think vets that age have had enough of talking about it, but you bring them by a helicopter or plane display of an A-4, and it triggers, "that son of a bitch John McCain landed on my ship and started a fire" kind of stories. Maybe film it like a youtuber and show it to him in the hospital, I'm sure he'd have plenty of commentary.

Hell, you could put an iPad in his room and livestream it. I'm just imagining a depression era kid that was in the Navy in the 50s looking at all the crap you're going to buy for your kids. Fried what? We couldn't even afford to fry grass before I joined the Navy! etc. Make sure to record it, I'm laughing just thinking about it. The little stories that generation leaks out when they don't mean to are gold.

That was probably the Collings Foundation TA-4J Skyhawk. The Skyhawk was my intro to Naval Aviation. A nimble jet with an incredible roll rate. It was the perfect aircraft for the Blues and pilots and maintenance crews loved it.

I saw the Blues twice when using A 4"s. My first time seeing them they were using F-4's. I've seen the Snowbirds as well. They put on a good show, however they don't have the raw power of the Blues and Thunderbirds.
