Coaches buyouts should go away with NIL now full speed.

There really isn't any upside to have buyouts if you are building teams through NIL.

With all these funds being directed to pay the players now, the HC salaries and massive buyout clauses should at least show some correction. I’m convinced coach’s pay was a function of not having to pay the players. Just had to pay the sideline talent. That has changed.

If coaches become less important than the players the market will adjust.

I agree that the buyouts are ridiculous, but think about this. Without them, universities are free to go after any HC they want for free. Meaning that they will be able to throw more money to get the guy they want. This will create a bidding war for top tier coaches and will inflate their salaries. So likely universities would just be paying the buyouts on the front end vs the back end.
