Does anyone have experience and/or advice for a Halloween experience in the Upper East Side of Manhattan? My wife (no pics) and 4 yr old are going for Halloween weekend.

NYC DOT has a map of the trick or treat streets, but I'd appreciate any shared experiences and advice.

We're flying in 10/31 and unfortunately Trick or Treat events in Central Park are 10/30.

I live on the Upper West, but it’s similar to the UES. A lot of the stores start giving out candy around 3-4pm when kids are getting out of school. I would check out Madison Ave. The candy can go quick at the stores, so don’t get discouraged.

The streets that close can get packed, but they’re fun. They usually don’t get started until after 5pm, but get busier after 6pm. Don’t forget to check the apartment buildings as well, the doormen often give out candy.

If you’re planning to have dinner out, get a reservation somewhere. A lot of families will be out and it will be hard to get a table without a reservation.

Take a day trip to Sleepy Hollow. You will not regret it. 1 hr train ride up the Hudson.

End the day at the Jack O Lantern Blaze.

I just got back from NUC this weekend. I spent several hours walking the Upper East Side looking at decorated porch stoops. There’s an awesome one decorated with Lego flowers on 78th between 2nd and 3rd. I also have a list given to be by a few friends who had been recently. The displays are mostly between 1st and 3rd and 70th to 80th.

I 2nd the recommendation for getting dinner reservations.

The Winter Village with ice skating at Bryant Park just opened. It looks cute and has good food.
