White House budget director Russell Vought said on Wednesday he wants to close the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau even though President Donald Trump's administration has argued in court that there is no such plan.

Vought made the remarks on "The Charlie Kirk Show" as the administration is locked in litigation with a CFPB labor union and consumer advocates over whether Trump has the authority to fire most CFPB staff or dismantle an agency created by Congress.

Very few people currently work at the CFPB's Washington headquarters "while we close down the agency," Vought said. "So we want to put it out and we will be successful probably within the next two or three months."

Vought repeated Republican allegations that the agency had persecuted small businesses but failed to protect consumers.

"All they want to do is weaponize the tools of financial laws against basically small mom-and-pop lenders and other small financial institutions," he said.

Too many fed jobs were created to compensate donors and their family’s with employment. I’m okay with this.

The CFPB is racist anyway. Liz Warren's whole premise for starting it was that blacks are more vulnerable to predatory lending than any other group. Blacks reliance on and use of Rent-A-Center and PayDay loans is poor decision-making. The Government needs to stop being in the business of protecting stupid people.

All the CFPB really does is impede commerce. States should set their own laws just like states have set their own laws for debt collections.

Used car dealers are regulated by the states they are in and can still be sued. No need for a Federal agency to bully businesses and impede commerce.

Not only this but I am given to understand that a significant portion of the multimillion dollar fines against large banks somehow ended up in the Democratic fund raising coffers

You understood correctly, they would fine the banks, then, they could get a discount if they donated to "a charity" NGO instead of the govt, and over 90% of these were honeypot dem organizations.

All while they had no oversight. They were also notorious for strong arming banks to put in DEI regs for corporations to get loans, "debanking" individuals, etc.

They literally operated like the mob demanding protection money.
