Was talking with an ol boy at work about them. Is it still a thing seems like 10yrs ago everyone I knew was going on one and tons of advertising for hunts.
Were they so effective that the number of birds are down.
Any reputable outfits in north La or Arkansas? may try to make a hunt next season if I can burn a barrel up.

I think people are starting to realize it’s a total crap shoot around here. You are either burning barrels or not firing a shot. And you still have to help pick up all those decoys in the mud

Best way to kill a bunch of snow geese is to creep up on them and then spend the next hour chasing cripples

lol I did that a bunch years ago and don’t really care to do it again, 3 sec of fun then just a bunch of work.
I really would like to make a barrel burning shoot with my son somewhere, might have to suck it up and go to Argentina.

Conservation or no conservation... you still need weather and a field where the geese want to be. If not, pretty much a waste of time.

I’d rather traffic snows in conservation than shoot the X. If you shoot the X and burn it down, it’s done after that.

If you traffic near the x field you can literally hunt the same field all season and have good shoots.

It can be a crap shoot, but you have to know how to scout and have a plan.

Going to a field and throwing out a trailer of decoys is only about 20% of the battle.

Find a reputable outfitter, not one of these every tom, dick, and Harry’s that use daddy’s money to outfit a trailer with divebomb decoys that hopes for the best is the best advice for conservation.

As a diy’er find where the birds are going, if you’re just there for a few days, burn it if you can get on it. If you’re there for a while, find a field near there and catch them going to feed. Less is more with the e callers and make your spread look natural.

Conservation order hunts for geese turn out not to be much fun.

Typically, you have to get up early as hell to help the guide put out thousands of rags and then lay on the ground while you listen to deafening recording of geese blaring for a few hours. Then, if the geese decide not to come to the field you are in, you won’t kill shite!

I have been on a few of these hunts…but I am done with that!

I’ve been hunting there since 2013!!!

They are consistent on large scale numbers year over year. Just check out their facebook page or website. My son goes every year since he was 8. Heck he’s going tomorrow to dove hunt the weekend.
I trust em 1000%

Our group shot over a thousand a year for 10 straight years in central Louisiana . My take on it was shells are very expensive and sky carp don't taste very good . Gave a bunch away on lower 3rd in Alexandria.
