Little Gem magnolias

Wife had to plant two LG magnolias in our front beds. Both trees have doubled in size of a normal LG and now she wants to cut them down. What kind of root system do these trees have? She’s worried about them causing slab issues.
It will be my job to take trees and trunks out if we go that route.

Well, if they actually are double the size of an average little gem then odds are they aren't little gems.

I've got two in my back yard that were about 2' tall when I planted them 7 or 8 years ago. They're about 20'-25' tall now. I do believe they may be just about finished growing, though.

I don’t know the answer about the root system, but I have little gems as well. I’ve always thought it was spelled Little Jim

I can't get my DD Blanchards to grow. How often do you guys fertilize and with what?

in my experience the root system goes pretty wide but not very deep, at least the runners. I have 2 of them in the front of my house and the roots spread out probably 15 feet but are only a couple of inches deep
