Recently bought my first set of clubs and been spending some time at the range. I’ve gotten a little better over those trips, but know I could probably benefit from at least a couple of lessons with a pro. Any recs on who and where to call about lessons in the Mandeville / Covington area?

ETA: and are there any driving ranges in the area that are open to the public besides the one in Abita and Oak Knoll in Hammond? I’m kind of smack in the middle of both and its about 20 miles / 35 minutes to either.

You have James Leitz right there in Covington. Golf Digest has him ranked as a top 20 instructor in the country. Might be a little overkill for a beginner though.

Yeah, I just looked him up and its $175 an hour with him. Probably a little more advanced than I need at this point.

Looks like he does lessons indoors with the simulator / launch monitor setup. Is that kind of setup good for beginner lessons vs hitting outside on grass? Or are lessons utilizing that kind of tech better suited for an experienced player that's trying to fine tune things?

You’d probably get as much out of an hour with him than you would with two or three lessons with someone less experienced and cheaper, so factor that in.

Royal and Pinewood both have ranges in Slidell. I;m on the east side of Mandeville and Royal was always the closest before I joined BCCC

For beginner lessons I suggest Colin Richwine at 1.5 Golf right there on La- 21

Pretty sure the pros there use rooms with one side open where you hit onto the range. They have trackman setup with tvs so you can see replays with the pros’ diagrams/notes. It’s a great setup, especially if it’s raining or windy.
