Would Asimov's Nightfall make a good movie?

Yes it would, if adapted from the 1941 short story. The later novel was trash.

There is a movie based on that short story. It's not very good but I think a properly done movie would be great, that's a pretty damn good story if you're into that genre

Did not know there had ever been an attempt. With some decent production, I could see a short 1 year/8 episode TV series, maybe even two seasons - with the second dealing the repurcussions and aftermath, or perhaps even another flukish Night event happening again in the short term. There are possibilities.

my love for the original short story, which is nigh-on perfect, has dissuaded me from ever watching either of these abominations

Yup. Spend some time on the archeological digs. An episode on the experiments of being in the dark would work too.

Have to have at least one aftermath episode, the level of destruction. An astronomer survived and figured out what happened. Writes it down so future generations know what to expect and prepare.
