Repost from last year that is always a great read.
TL;DR Rick Rescorla was the head of security at the WTC offices of Morgan Stanley and basically predicted that the complex would be attacked again. His efforts to drill MS employees saved over 2,700 lives that day (only 13 died, including him and his staff).
Rick was also a mega badass (fought communists by joining both the British and Rhodesian armies before immigrating to the US to fight in Vietnam).
RIP

Rick not only predicted 9/11, Rick and his friend/security consultant Dan Hill predicted the 93 bombing would happen exactly like it did.
There’s a great doc called The Man Who Predicted 9/11 that has a detailed interview with Dan Hill but I can’t find it anywhere anymore. Dan Hill was on the phone with Rick when the bomb went off in 93 and heard the pop. All Rick said was GOTTA GO. Rick called him back and said the staircases are filling with smoke and I’m getting the people out. THESE’S IDIOTS DIDN’T LISTEN TO ME. Rick had way more credibility and pull after 93 but MS/DW leadership kept telling him to buzz off when he would tell them they needed to move their offices out of the WTC.

Their lease was still a few years away from ending so they weren’t going to break it, but they did give him carte blanche security-wise.

The betrayal of Rhodesia and allowing it to fall to race based communism set the stage for the current ills of western civilization. Those people created that country out of nothing and increased the quality of life of millions of Africans and gave them healthcare, food, education and welfare while we sat back allowed it to be stolen

There were several accounts from people evacuating that he was singing into the bullhorn to calm folks down.
Then when he was done escorting and everyone evacuating from below the impact zone had gotten out, he went back up to check to see if there were more people stuck.
He essentially gave his life up in an effort to save others.

In his and Dan Hill's minds, it was better than growing old and helpless. Can't say they were wrong.
