Howdy all,

I have been wearing contacts for 20 plus years and am wanting to change that. My vision is minimally corrected with contacts (-1.50 in each eye), but just enough to give me headaches if I do not wear them. Also, my vision has not changed once in these 20 years.

I went to a consultation with William Eye Center and got their spill. I walked away with all questions answered and felt good about the place, doctor, and procedure.

My questions:

Who else should I be considering for LASIK in the BR area? I have only been to Williamson because they are the largest in the area and was able to get me in for the consultation very quickly.

What is the going price for LASIK? Williamson's price is $3,920.00 for both eyes, all in. This is a hair bit more than what I was expecting, but not unreasonable. I am about to have to get another eye exam ($150.00) and then order another 2-3 years worth of contacts ($400-$500) if I push this past the 1st of the year.

I am not trying to get the absolute cheapest eye doctor, but do not want to get hosed either.

Finally, I do not have cataracts nor any other issues that need to be corrected, just vision.

Thank yall!

I don’t know that I would opt for LASIK with just a -1.50 prescription. But I did mine around 18 years ago with Dr Pearce at OLOL. Highly recommend him. I think it was around $3k when I did mine but this is not something to find the “best deal” on. Definitely look into Dr. Pearce. He is one of the top eye/cataracts doctors in the area.

I did LASIK with Dr. Pearce and the entire experience was great
He actually found a tear in my retina and sent me quickly to get that fixed first before doing the LASIK, so I'm thankful to him.

Recovery was super easy and day of procedure no pain. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

The question you should be asking is do you want LASIK for that little prescription.

Absolutely. Even with the minor perscription, I get headaches not wearing my contacts. This is even around the house. Driving just down the road is even worse and not the safest.

I did LASIK 3 years ago at Williamson. It was a couple hundred dollars cheaper back then. I doubt the procedure has changed. It was lifechanging in that I don't have to worry about my eyes hurting from overuse of contacts, feels like my eyes can breathe. Being able to wear sunglasses without needing a prescription set was a massive plus. The recovery time is really weeks to maybe two months max. You will have dry eye for that length of time, so stock up on the preservative free eye drops. Doctors give you Valium for the night before and before the surgery, felt awesome. The prep of the surgery takes a few minutes per eye, but the actual surgery happens in less than 30 seconds each eye. You really don't notice what's going on, nor do you know that it's over until the doctor tell you. I went from -2.5 L/-2.75 R and I probably could've survived the rest of my life with glasses, but I have never been happier since I got LASIK.

Shop around to see if any place there has the newer SMILE machine/technique, it's the least harsh version so far. I had it last summer, was basically back to normal by 2 days later. Didn't really have dry eye. I would definitely fix -1.50, doesn't matter how much they correct - going from needing something to needing nothing to see is a life changer. Now you don't have to fret about time travel (to the past) or being shipwrecked on Kong's island, you'll be able to see fine.
