Good to get him signed for this year but in Adam Schefter's post about this it says he'll become an unrestricted free agent after this season. So while he's taking a big risk playing without a long term deal the Bengals are likely going to lose him next year and get nothing in return.

While he's a great player, that 30m should have been used earlier in the offseason to get multiple defenders. They're more than one pass rusher away from even being a passable defense.

Like who? lol. Guys of his caliber are not exactly sitting on the bench doing nothing. I believe the Bengals have the money and space, it was a matter of the owner not wanting to sign an older guy to a long term deal.
ETA: can they franchise tag him next year? Not likely at his age? But if they get him this year and he is good and then franchise him next year, that’s not the worst plan for both sides really.

he gets a 20% raise in franchise tender if he is tagged for '26, up to $36 mil, but yea it appears there isn't a no tag clause
now, 36 mil for a guy who will be turning 32 in the 2026 season is risky. Bengals FO honestly did pretty well, if he sucks this year they can cut bait and if he's awesome again they can tag him again if they feel they don't need to spread the money around
