I’ll probably never watch the Superman movie until it’s free, but I am locked in for Peacemaker tomorrow night

Pretty dumb considering it leads directly into this show

well I’m not going to the theater to watch it and I’m not sure what streaming services will have it to rent but I most likely don’t have those services

Why? You don’t go to the theater for any movie?

It’s only available video on demand right now for $25 and theater. Streaming on hbo max later

Maybe it’s becoming non-traditional but I like to be immersed when I watch a film. Streaming quality is nowhere near even a 4K disc

As for the show, looking forward to episodes 6-8. Gunn keeps saying episodes 6 and 8 are his favorite thing he’s ever made and should have implications for the wider DCU

not the theater where I live, I’ll just leave it at that.

I will drive a couple hours away to a different theater but it’s got to be for something like Dune 2 level if that makes sense

I’ll wait for that

I’m skeptical about the new dance song. Season 1 is unbeatable and didn’t care for the new one, pretty sure it’s Foxy Shazam - oh lord iirc

It was available in 4k for free almost immediately after VOD came available.

Do I need to watch Superman first? Or can I just pick up where I left off with season one?

This is a follow-up to Superman so it’s recommended

The general thought is you don't HAVE to if you've seen Season 1, but it could enrich the experience. I'll watch it without having watched Superman. One of the biggest put offs to the later Marvel stuff for me is the requirement to watch a bunch of movies to understand a show.

quote:

Having watched the first five episodes of "Peacemaker" season 2 before I watched "Superman," I can confirm that Mr. Agee is correct. You don't need to have watched "Superman" or Cena's cameo in it to understand what's going on in this new season of "Peacemaker," though it definitely provides context as to why what Peacemaker is doing in the first few episodes of season 2 is such a problem to everyone else.

But the show does a good job of holding your hand without hitting you over the head with exposition. You don't know exactly why something from "Superman" might be relevant, but you can deduce the gist of it. Again, without spoiling anything, there's a reference made to a "Superman incident," and having now seen "Superman," I know the incident in question and it was totally fine that I didn't know about it before I started watching the season 2 premiere of "Peacemaker." Gunn's writing managed to get me the information I needed, regardless of whether I was a DCU completionist or not.

Did we ever get the video of Alan Tudyk Guinea pigging through the dance moves of the Peacemaker open as his choreographer wife created the "dance for actors who can't dance" choreography?

you have it backwards. The turnoff is having to watch a show to understand a movie. Nobody wants to have to see 10 episodes to go for 2 hours at the movies

Nothing wrong with a movie having direct ties to a show IMO. Also, pretty sure Gunn used the word “sequel” to Superman for this season

Gunn, on today’s Crew Call, tells us while it was his original intention to write season 2 of Peacemaker before Superman, that whole plan changed once he took the reigns at Warner Bros DC Studios. The whole blueprint for the multi-dimensional universe in Superman wound up playing a big role in Smith’s future storyline which Gunn wrote post his Man of Steel.

But there was an initial draft that Gunn scrapped.

“The first time I wrote a rough outline of season 2, it had to do with other white supremacist superheroes who were after Peacemaker for killing his father because he was their comrade,” says Gunn, “For me, it played a little bit too much like season one and I wanted to turn the story on its heels.”

“I wanted Peacemaker to be this character who had to really deal with the ramifications of his actions in season one, and deal with his emotional reality of the demons that he discovered in season one and how does he face that. That seemed to work much better for that.”

One of the inspirations for Gunn was the Philip Roth novel The Counterlife.

Gunn talks to us about his relief in Superman being a success (the movie is closing in on $600M worldwide gross) and blasting off his DC Studios phase one. He is joined on Deadline’s Crew Call by his Peacemaker DP Sam McCurdy (who won an Emmy for Cinematography One-Hour Series last year for Shogun) and the two chat about season 2’s visual aesthetic
