Alrighty, so my dad is a huge fan of trains and I am looking for the most scenic experience for him. We will also have luggage and he is elderly so I’m looking for ease of travel as well. Would it be wise to take a train from Basel to Lucerne and ride the Goldenpass through to Interlaken then Interlaken to Montreux? Would it be wise to take a train from Basel to Interlaken and pick up the Goldenpass there? It’s a 7 hour journey doing the entire Goldenpass to Montreux so that might be too much for the old man. What say you train enthusiasts?

We did the Goldenpass from Interlaken to Montreaux. It was raining but still very scenic. I would recommend booking the 1st class cabin. We were very comfortable doing so and had large bags that we were easily able to store.

Haven't done the whole route you described but if he's interested in trains and the scenery, consider taking the train from Montreux to Zermatt, we did it two years ago and it was amazing. Photos don't do it justice.
