After pressing the on button the lock doesn’t come on and washer does nothing.

Is it plugged into power?

You need to be a little more specific than that.
What's the model? Top load, front load?

Did you trip the breaker?

It lights up on the panel so it’s getting power.

The lock mechanism or the control panel is likely out. I replaced both on mine. The lock is the cheapest and easiest part to change so I’d start there. It usually plugs into the back control panel and is routed under the top of the case. Very easy to do when you pull it out.

Have you tried pushing the button twice? Also, this may be of interest to you:

To get that I just searched whirlpool parts and the model number. I’ve tried to call the local parts stores and see the OEM part price. Sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised by the price.
A quick search of Amazon and EBay show tons of options. I’d try to stick with OEM and from the US for both. Off brand parts are hit or miss.
This looks like it. You can probably find it cheaper or maybe find it locally. Good luck!
