Taking an Alaskan Cruise and need outerwear recommendations.

Going on Alaskan cruise from Sept 5-12th. I know to expect rain and to bring outerwear/shoes that are waterproof. But how heavy of a coat do I need to bring. Plan on layering up with like an undershirt, with a fleece pullover or some other heavier type shirt and then a waterproof softshell hooded jacket but it’s not a very heavy jacket.
Should that be sufficient.

That sounds like it will be fine. Depending on some of your shore excursions you may want to throw in a puffer, which is waterproof as well. I took one in high school in early June and was fine in a hoodie. Now I'd probably bring a quarter zip or two and a waterproof jacket.

No need for a heavy jacket a hoodie will do. Make sure you bring waterproof shoe covers and waterproof gloves. I went last year in September and it rained three out of the seven days. Prepare but don't OVER pack

Your plan works if the fleece is warm. No heavy coat needed for 5–15°C. Add hat, gloves, waterproof shoes. Skip bulky parkas.

We got Columbia rain pants and rain jacket along with waterproof tennis shoes for Norway and they worked great.
Just make wure they are in a size where you can layer underneath.

Sept/Oct are the wettest months. Expect rain, lots of rain and dress appropriately.

I have been on two of them, both in May.
I took a heavy overcoat and wore it a few times. We experienced temperatures in the 30s and the 80s (Fairbanks) in the same week.

LOL! I just did this research for our upcoming trip to Iceland, first week of September. TOO MUCH research.

Taking that and an Eddie Bauer CirrusLite Down (for warmth as needed)

I'm going the week before you and my packing list is similar to what you described. Although you don't mention insulated pants. I plan to bring a pair as a base layer. As some else mentioned 3/4 zip pull overs for walking around the ship.

Anyone who's cruise goes to Tracy Arm might check to see if your itinerary changes. Side of a mountain collapsed on one of the twin Sawyer Glaciers and created a huge tsunami.

I saw that; thanks for sharing. They had a glacial lake burst yesterday in Juneau as well. Tough week for those who live in that region.
